Can you carry or carry a permit for a gun if you have a DUI charge?
Shawn B asked:

I have a charge pending for DUI in 2008 and was wondering if that would effect my chances of getting a handgun permit. I have not been arrested before and im fighting the charges of the DUI because i was not intoxicated. I know better than that, and never will be in that situation again, PROMISE.
In the state oif Tennessee?
Thanks for the answers but i found out in Tenn that you can carry/get a permit with the charge. Thank you.

I believe it depends on the state. I know that in a Massachusetts, a conviction would disqualify you.

    Laws vary by state.

Check out About.com. I just used it to answer a question on Montana gun laws. You did not indicate your state, so go ahead and type “YOUR STATE possession of firearm” into Google and click on the link that comes up from about.com….peace out.

Generally convicted felons and those with mental health disorders are precluded from obtaining a concealed weapons permit. Misdemeanors do not prevent someone from getting a permit.

If you lose you can kiss your chances of a gun permit goodbye

depends what the charge is – you probably shouldnt even consider applying for one until 5 years have passed that this is in the past

but i wouldnt tell the judge that getting a handgun is your highest priortiy at this point, because he already considers your car keys to be a weapon
